AGC Selects Avaya Data Solutions in New Data Center Operations

Avaya, a global leader in enterprise communications systems, software and services, announced that AGC, one of Australia’s providers of fabrication/manufacturing, construction and integrated services, has implemented Avaya Ethernet switchers and an 802.11n wireless LAN configuration into two new Perth based data centres.

The new data centres, which went live at the end of June, house a rack mounted Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 5600 and 802.11n wireless LAN configuration which form an essential part of AGC’s new corporate network infrastructure. The Avaya network infrastructure will replace AGC’s existing collection of servers and routers and has been designed to support AGC as it moves forward with plans to expand its workforce to 1000 workers over the next two years.

AGC’s investment in Avaya technologies is part of a corporate move towards an integrated unified communication system that aims to improve the company’s existing IT infrastructure and increase staff productivity with easy to use features, increased network stability and reduced network downtime.

“The Avaya network infrastructure will streamline our existing ‘birds nest’ of routers and other equipment. AGC is confident that by using Avaya’s always on, efficient and scalable products we are ensuring the success of our new data centres as we grow our workforce and our geographical spread.”, said David Redpath, AGC’s Chief Information Officer (CIO).

“Avaya Data Solutions provide advanced enterprise-class reliability, performance, and security that AGC can depend on to run its businesses,” said Rob Wells, Managing Director, Avaya, Australia and New Zealand. “Typically Avaya solutions can offer better performance and more resiliency at a lower cost than the legacy vendor. AGC can look forward to decreased network downtime and increased productivity – keys to seeing an early return on its investment.”

The Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 5600 series is a set of premium, high-performance, highly efficient, stackable switches with comprehensive Layer 3 routing, advanced security and unified communications features. As a flexible, multi-role platform, the Ethernet Routing Switch 5600 is suitable for wiring closet, data center aggregation and network core applications.

The Avaya Data Solutions portfolio spans Ethernet switching, wireless networking, unified branch, access control and unified management solutions. Avaya was behind the data network at the recent 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver delivering an always-on, converged network to support all the network traffic needed to run the Games and manage it to deliver peak performance.
